Semana Santa in Alhaurín el Grande 2026: Complete guide for tourists and visitors

There are destinations where Semana Santa (Holy Week) is observed from a distance. However, in Alhaurín el Grande, it is felt in the streets, in the atmosphere of the town, and in that change of pace that completely transforms the visit.

Declared of National Tourist Interest of Andalusia, this celebration is not just a succession of processions. On the contrary, it is a total immersion in tradition, where the value lies not only in seeing a trono (float) pass by, but in everything that happens around it: preliminary events, live performances, local atmosphere, and a gastronomic offering that completes the experience.

The Town Hall has been promoting Semana Santa in Alhaurín el Grande for years (even at FITUR), and in 2026 it is debuting a new official image. Therefore, if you are looking for a different getaway in the province of Málaga, far from the crowds of the coast, we will tell you why Semana Santa in Alhaurín el Grande should be on your travel list.

What makes Semana Santa in Alhaurín el Grande unique

In this sense, if we had to summarize the experience in a simple formula, it would be this: streets, tradition, devotion, and cuisine. Furthermore, there is a historical element that forms the backbone of the entire municipality during these days:

The most unique characteristic of the Alhaurín Semana Santa is that practically the whole town is divided into two major brotherhoods:

  • Los Moraos: From the Royal Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth.

  • Los Verdes: From the Brotherhood of the Holy True Cross.

Evidently, this causes both brotherhoods to make the utmost effort each year to improve their parades, their squads of Roman soldiers, and their impressive music bands.

Live performances: Monumental open-air theater

Here, not everything is reduced to the passing of the processions. In fact, the town squares turn into life-size stages. Hundreds of locals recreate live the passages of the Passion of Christ. Consequently, it is a spectacular immersive experience; you attend a historical theatrical play right in the streets of the town. Tickets are already on sale to attend the live performances on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday; their price is €15 for the full pass. On the other hand, the sale of individual tickets will take place only on the same day as each performance.

🏡 Are you coming to experience Semana Santa in Alhaurín el Grande?

In fact, there are very few days left until the big week begins, and occupancy is flying. For this reason, do not settle for just coming for a couple of hours: stay, rest, experience the local atmosphere from the inside, and secure your perfect getaway.

Gastronomy: Flavors of Semana Santa

This is the detail that many tourists discover late. Undoubtedly, the cuisine is a pillar of this festivity. In 2026, the Town Hall has once again promoted the “Flavors of Semana Santa” initiative, a proposal focused on traditional Lenten dishes and typical sweets for these dates in local restaurants and bakeries. Furthermore, walking through the center, seeing how the town fills up, and sitting down to taste the local gastronomy turns the visit into a perfect trip.

For example, I recommend you try the Torrijas, Bollos de Aceite, and Roscos when it comes to pastries. Specifically, some bakeries to try these delicacies are: Carnero, El Colmenero, Guzmán, El Rubio and Tita Gracia. Likewise, to enjoy the Lenten dishes of Cod and other fish: Restaurante La Arquilla, Restaurante Carolina, Tapería Casa de la Abuela, Restaurante La Lonja de la Alegría and Venta la Recta.

How to organize your visit

  1. Arrive with plenty of time: Generally, the most common mistake for visitors is to pop in and out on the same day in a rush just to see a specific float. Dedicate at least a full day or, better yet, stay in the area. In this way, you do not depend on a single procession and you absorb the true atmosphere of the town.

  2. Check the official program: Each edition has its own schedules. Furthermore, the Town Hall publishes the official program with the itineraries of the live performances and processions.

  3. Keep the Tourist Office handy: For any questions, the Department of Tourism offers visitor assistance. Phone: 952 49 94 84 // Email: turismo@alhaurinelgrande.es

  4. Locate the departures and routes: Mainly, keep in mind that the processions of Los Verdes start their route from the Convent, while those of Los Moraos depart from the Ermita. Likewise, all the brotherhoods share a central axis in the town. Their processions pass through main streets such as Plaza Alta, Calle Cruz, Calle Real, the “4 esquinas”, and Calle San Sebastián. Consequently, finding a spot on these streets is a sure bet to enjoy the passing of the floats (tronos).

Who is this destination for?

Semana Santa in Alhaurín el Grande fits perfectly with travelers looking for a town with a real atmosphere and not just a simple “backdrop” to take photos. Mainly, it is ideal for those looking to mix tradition and good gastronomy on a spring getaway with its own identity, far from the frantic pace of the coast.

In short, if you are looking for an experience with personality and streets full of life, Alhaurín el Grande undoubtedly deserves a spot on your calendar. And remember: the best way to experience it is not by arriving in a rush, but by staying, strolling, and feeling like just another local from Alhaurín.
