What to visit in Cartama?

  • Moorish Castle: The Moorish castle of Cártama, in ruins but imposing, was built as a defense of Málaga against invasions. His Roman predecessor took advantage of the accessibility of the Guadalhorce River for strategic raids. Testimony of bygone eras, this castle still evokes the history and military importance of the region.
  • Church of San Pedro Apóstol: The church, erected on a mosque after the conquest of the Catholic Monarchs in 1502, stands out in the life of the city. An exterior inscription reveals its history. On the main holiday, April 22, it houses the image of the city’s patron saint, being a key center of celebrations.
  • The Hermitage of Our Lady of Remedies: The Virgen de los Remedios, patron saint of Cártama, is venerated in the hermitage throughout the year, but especially on April 22, when the locals make an emotional pilgrimage to the church of the Apostle San Pablo, taking with them the image of the virgin to celebrate your main festival.
