The Pool Challenge in Malaga: How Will it Affect Tourism this Summer?

Tourism in Malaga faces a significant challenge this summer with the possible prohibition of filling and refilling private pools in tourist accommodations. As property owners or travelers, this may be a cause for concern, but at Cubo’s Holiday Homes, we believe it’s a time to reflect on innovative solutions and maintain hope for the situation to improve so that we can enjoy a summer full of memorable experiences.

The Association of Professionals of Tourist Houses and Apartments of Andalusia (AVVAPro), of which our CEO, Juan Cubo Guerrero, is vice president, is actively working to address this situation. The estimated economic impact of this restriction could exceed 4.8 billion euros, with the loss of nearly 2.9 million travelers during June, July, August, and September. This figure demonstrates the magnitude of the problem and the need to find solutions.

In a recent meeting between AVVAPro and the Andalusian Government, the current state of drought and possible measures to address it were discussed. Attending this meeting on behalf of the association were Carlos Pérez-Lanzac, president of AVVAPro, Juan Cubo Guerrero, vice president of AVVAPro, and Jesús García, delegate of the Costa del Sol. On behalf of the Andalusian administration, Government Delegate Patricia Navarro, Tourism, Culture, and Sports Delegate Gemma del Corral, and Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development Delegate Fernando Fernández were present.

Juan Cubo Guerrero, along with other leaders in the tourism sector, emphasized the importance of working together to find a balance between necessary restrictions and the proper functioning of tourist accommodations. Authorities are aware of the sector’s importance and are willing to review measures if weather conditions improve.

Although the situation is challenging, the Andalusian Government has shown sensitivity to the seriousness of the problem and the economic importance of tourism to the region. A final decision is expected in the coming weeks, depending on the weather and potential rainfall that could alleviate the drought. There is a tangible hope that restrictions will be partially eased, allowing for a more normal summer for property owners and travelers.

At Cubo’s Holiday Homes, we understand the concerns that may arise from these restrictions, but we are committed to working with AVVAPro and the authorities to find solutions that allow us to enjoy a safe and pleasant summer. Tourism is a fundamental pillar of the economy of Malaga and Andalusia, and we are all focused on protecting and promoting it.

As travelers, you can rest assured that we are doing everything possible to make your stays enjoyable and safe. As property owners, we want you to know that we are working to protect your interests and ensure that tourism remains a source of growth and employment for the region.
